Five years ago today, Matt Stairs homered his way into Phillies postseason lore

In 2008, the Phillies won their first World Series in 28 years. The team included an array of past and present players such as Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Cole Hamels, Tom 'Flash' Gordon and Pat 'The Bat' Burrell.

But Matt Stairs, a late-season pickup and self-described "5-foot-9 and 2-I-really-don't-care" ballplayer, proved to be one of the more crucial members of the championship squad. The 40-year-old hit two homers in 17 at-bats during the last few weeks of the regular season and provided a game-winning, pinch-hit moonshot in Game 4 of the NLCS.

It earned Stairs a World Series ring, and as he tweeted on Sunday, gratitude from Philadelphia bartenders for all eternity:
