6 must-see moments from Tuesday's Red Sox-Tigers ALCS Game 3
With the ALCS tied 1-1, the Tigers hosted the Red Sox in Detroit for Game 3 on Tuesday. After Boston's dramatic grand-slam victory on Sunday, the Tigers hoped to reclaim the lead in the series at home -- but the power of the beards (Mike Napoli's and John Lackey's, specifically) proved dominant once again.
Jonny Gomes is ready. Let's get to the GIFs.
The game was delayed for 17 minutes in the middle of the second when a Super Bowl-style power outage shut off Comerica Park's lights -- much to Lackey's dismay.
Justin Verlander threw 10 strikeouts over 6 2/3 scoreless innings, but Mike Napoli interrupted his streak with a solo homer in the seventh. The Sox were up, 1-0.
Reliever Craig Breslow looked very, well, relieved to see Prince Fielder strike out to end the eighth.
Detroit fans' hopes for a comeback were further deflated when Boston pulled off a neat 6-4-3 double play in the ninth.
After Koji Uehara whiffed Alex Avila for the game's final out, nobody was happier than David Ortiz. Come to Papi!
The Red Sox and the Tigers will play Game 4 of the ALCS at Comerica Park on Wednesday.
