Happy 75th birthday to Jim Kaat, who won 16 Gold Gloves in a row

Only two players in MLB history have won 16 consecutive Gold Glove Awards. One is Brooks Robinson, a third baseman so renowned for his defensive prowess that he was called the "human vacuum cleaner." The other was southpaw Jim Kaat, who was a model of consistency on the mound in a career that began in 1959 and ended in 1983.

While he does not hold the record for most Gold Gloves as a pitcher -- Greg Maddux's 18 are more than any player at any position -- Kaat's fielding abilities were obviously very well-regarded. You can get a taste from the play in the video above, which was the final out of Game 2 of the 1965 World Series between the Dodgers and Twins.

Kaat's Twins would not prevail in that series, but his longevity would enable him to get that elusive ring. After a long career with the Senators, Twins, White Sox, Phillies and Yankees, he would finally win a championship at age 43 with the '82 Cardinals. After retiring, Kaat became a broadcaster, and is currently working for MLB Network.
