Happy birthday to Dontrelle Willis (who might not be done yet)

When Dontrelle Willis first reached the Majors with the Marlins in 2003, he was one of the biggest stories in baseball. His wacky delivery, infectious enthusiasm for the game and, above else, instant success (he made the All-Star team despite not debuting until May 9) gave him phenom status as a rookie. In the video above, you can see him complete one of his finest performances of that year, a one-hit shutout against the Mets on June 16.

The Marlins won the '03 World Series and Willis won the Rookie of the Year. After a middling '04, he came very close to capturing the Cy Young Award in '05, posting a 2.63 ERA and a league-leading five shutouts. And since then, unfortunately, it's been a downhill ride for the D-Train, as stops in Detroit, Arizona and Cincinnati haven't seen him replicate his early success.

But on Sunday, Willis turned only 32. He hasn't appeared in the Majors since 2011, but he's still trying to get back, and the Giants just signed him to a Minor League deal. Here's hoping the D-Train can get back on track.
