Here's video of Tony Gwynn learning he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame
On June 16, 2014, Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn passed away at the age of 54. Gwynn, a member of baseball's hallowed 3,000-hit club, played all 20 of his MLB seasons with the San Diego Padres and was an integral part of their 1984 and '98 teams that played in the World Series.
Though Gwynn's highlight reel is as close to infinite as it gets, one particularly powerful moment that stands out from his too-short time in this vale came on the morning of January 9, 2007, when he received a call from the Baseball Writers Association of America and learned that he would be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
While no one expects that a particular image or video clip can ease the hearts of Gwynn's family, friends, and baseball family and friends, the emotional moment at which he learns that his life's accomplishments were impressive enough to earn him an induction into the hallowed Hall might serve as an apt, if small reminder that Gwynn's time here was well-spent.
Rest in peace, Tony.
