Today in Postseason History: Huey Lewis sings the national anthem before Cardinals game

Today in Postseason History: Huey Lewis sings anthem

The power of love is a curious thing. It can make one man weep, and another man sing. But whose side is it on?

Twenty-eight years ago, the Cardinals visited the Giants at Candlestick Park to play Game 3 of the NLCS. The game was pre-empted by Huey Lewis and the News performing the "Star-Spangled Banner" in front of a massive crowd. That game took place on Oct. 9, 1987. The Cards won that game, 6-5, and went on to win the series in seven games (and then lost to the Twins in the World Series).

Three years prior, in 1984, Huey Lewis and the News sang the national anthem before the Giants game on Opening Day at Candlestick Park. The Giants' opponent that day?

The Cubbies, who won, 5-3, and went on to play in that year's NLCS

Now, for the first time in their storied history, the Cardinals will face their rival Cubs in the postseason, and they'll do so as the North Side embraces the prophecy of "Back to the Future II," a movie from a trilogy rife with Huey Lewis and the News.

The Cubs and Cardinals will face off in Game 1 of the NLDS at 6:30 p.m. ET tonight on TBS. Tune in to see who channels the power of love, who weeps and who sings
