Take a look at how the MLB Draft breaks down state-by-state
As much as we know about baseball, there's far more that we couldn't possibly understand. Sure, we can use stats and analytics to capture facets of the game, but for every new piece of information we uncover, there are still 10 more waiting to be fully explored.
It is in this spirit of exploration that we put together the following infographic breaking down the MLB First-Year Player Draft by U.S. State. Does geography play a part in determining who among us possessed the tools to become an MLB star? It certainly is possible.
Check out this infographic below to see not only which states have produced the most MLB players, but also to find out who is the best player ever drafted from your particular slice of the union. Instead of solely relying on each player's WAR to form the list, each state's best Major Leaguer was ultimately decided upon by Jim Callis, MLB.com's prospect expert and Draft historian extraordinaire.
And don't forget to tune in to watch the Draft live June 8 at 7 p.m. ET on MLB Network and MLB.com., with the pregame show starting at 6 p.m.
(Note: The states listed here refer to the school the player was drafted out of, not the state in which he was born. Click the image to open it in full-size)
