Infrared baseball photos are eerie, otherworldly, awesome

Braves team photographer Pouya Dianat has created a slideshow for the New York Times that presents baseball like you've probably never seen it.

Removing the visible light filter from DSLR cameras, Dianat captured Turner Field scenes from this year in only infrared light. Converting those images to black and white results in shots like the one you see above of Justin Upton rounding the bases after a home run.

The infield grass stands out like never before in this surreal perspective:

Jersey wordmarks and sock patterns are only faint whispers (although tattoos show up pretty well):
