It was Wally's world before The Iron Horse

On this date in 1893, Wally Pipp was born. Pipp was the first Yankee to win a home run title, but he's known more as footnote in MLB history.

On June 2, 1925, Pipp was removed from the Yankees' starting lineup and replaced by a young man named Lou Gehrig. And thus began the Iron Horse's amazing streak of 2,130 consecutive games played.

Pipp was later traded to the Reds before the 1926 season, and he made his final Major League appearance on Sept. 30, 1928.
