It's not often a pitcher strikes out four batters in an inning ... or is it?
The math doesn't seem to add up. If there are three outs in each half inning, how can there be four strikeouts?
Easy. When strike three is mishandled by the catcher, the batter has the right to attempt to reach first base. It doesn't happen often, or -- rather -- it didn't happen often until this season.
Braves closer Craig Kimbrel became the 8th different pitcher to record four K's in a single inning this season -- a new MLB record.
Pitchers these days seem to be so good that hitters can't hit them, and catchers can't catch them.
