Jackson Generals will wear Dorothy-themed 'Wizard of Oz' jerseys next year

Jackson Generals will wear 'Wizard of Oz' jerseys

Minor League Baseball is great at looking to popular culture for new jersey ideas. After all, we've seen multiple "Star Wars" efforts, the Toledo Mud Hens' celebration of the 30th anniversary of "Ghostbusters" last season and, this year, we're excited for a "Saved by the Bell" top. So far, no team has ventured into the world of classic 1930s cinema -- until today, that is.

This season, the Jackson Generals, Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, will be wearing Dorothy's classic blue plaid dress with ruby red writing in honor of the 1939 classic, "Wizard of Oz."

And while there's no word on if players will need to click their cleats together three times in order to cross home plate, or if the baselines will be painted to look like yellow brick road, we do hope that this opens up a whole world of classic movie-related Minor League promotions.

After all, who wouldn't want to attend "Casablanca" night with players wearing fedoras and overcoats and with fans saying at the end of the game, "It doesn't take much to see that the problems of a 25-man roster doesn't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world." Or maybe "Duck Soup" night where the players dress like their favorite Marx brother. Or even "Gone with the Wind" night, complete with $1 hot dogs because "As God is my witness, I will never be hungry again."
