Jeff Kent is on Survivor: Week 7 Analysis

Every week, we’ll be analyzing Jeff Kent's performance on Survivor. This isn’t a Survivor recap. This is a Jeff Kent recap. Contains spoilers.

When it comes down to it, Survivor is a game of numbers. You can be nice and friendly to everyone in your tribe, but if you don't have numbers in your favor going into a tribal council, you're going to get voted off.

But it's more complicated than that. It's not just a question of whether or not your alliance is in the majority. It's where you fall on the totem pole of your alliance. If you are low down on the totem pole, sure you might be safe now, but the second the members of your alliance are the only ones left in the game, you will be the next to go.

That's why it can sometimes be a smart move to ditch your alliance and head over to the other tribe and vote with them.

With all that being said, I just don't understand Jeff Kent's strategy from this week's episode. After the merge, Kent was in the minority. His Kalabaw tribe had four members left while Tandang had seven. However, as I said, just because you have the numbers, it doesn't mean you're safe.

R.C. and Michael were at the bottom of their Tandang alliance and knew it. They approached Kent and his Kalabaw tribemates about a possible alliance that would not only helpt their cause, but would establish Kent as their leader, essentially allowing him to vote off whomever he wanted.

But Jeff has been obsessed with not letting Penner, a returning Survivor player, win the game. So instead of keeping Penner around for a few more weeks, Kent threw all his cards away and decided to break off their alliance.

Kent is still in the game, and might be for a few more weeks. But he has gone from the top of one totem pole to the bottom of another. Plus, he has Penner (who survived the vote due to his use of a hidden immunity idol) gunning directly for him.

Not a smart move.

JEFF KENT PREDICTION FOR WEEK 8

- Feeling that he might be on the chopping block, Kent will use his athleticism to take home individual immunity.

- Kent and Penner will have a blowout fight that will scare the pants off of everyone else in the tribe.

- No one will find out that "Jeff" is actually "Jeff Kent, former NL MVP."

- Kent will get a few votes, after Penner convinces one or two people to join him in an alliance, but he will survive Tribal Council and be back for Week 9.
