Jeremy Guthrie parodies Michael Jordan, retires from being a sneakerhead (maybe)

Jeremy Guthrie parodies MJ's retirement presser

Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie has announced that he's retiring from collecting sneakers. In a press conference parodying Michael Jordan's first retirement from basketball (the one where he announced he'd play professional baseball), Guthrie donned his Sunday best to, um, hang 'em up, so to speak.

Guthrie's wardrobe and deadpan tone even mirror MJ's from the infamous '93 presser:

You'll notice that Guthrie's collection is nothing to balk at: on the left side of the table you'll see a pair of the Nike Air Mag "Back to the Future" sneakers prominently featured in Back to the Future IIThey'll only run you about $7,000.

"I just don't feel like I have anything left for myself to prove. That goes with some reservations, a bit, because I'm gonna miss the game. I'm gonna miss the opportunities to get the latest retro, the hottest color wave and some of the player exclusives. And spending time posting and commenting. I won't say that I'll never come back, but -- at the time -- I'm really pleased with my decision."

Now that his sneakerhead career is behind him, Guthrie will have more free time to focus on his other passions, like pitching baseballs, writing about electric cars and being Justin Timberlake's biggest fan.
