Jhonatan Solano drives in Donovan Solano for the most brotherly run of the day
Jhonatan Solano doubles, drives in brother Donovan
Fishing, jigsaw puzzles, watching crime procedurals on the couch -- these are activities that I, as an only child, can only imagine brothers do together. Thanks to Donovan and Jhonatan Solano, I will be adding "scoring MLB runs" to that list.
The brothers started in the same MLB lineup for the first time for Sunday's game against the Phillies, with Donovan at second base and Jhonatan behind the plate. Hitting in the seventh and eighth spots, respectively, the Solano bros. went 0-2 in their first at-bats of the game.
But when the brothers led off the fifth inning for the Marlins, their shared genes aligned. Donovan started things off, reaching base on a deflected single to Chase Utley. Jhonatan then did what older brothers tend to do: He made sure his younger brother got home safe.
Because he started the year in Triple-A, Jhonatan's streaking double was also his first of the season for the Marlins. Miami dropped the game, but the brothers still turned scoring a run into a family affair.
"This is our first game. We are happy for us, but we're mad for the loss," Donovan told MLB.com's Joe Frisaro.
