Jim Thome's 511-foot HR to be immortalized at Progressive Field
The Tribe slugger rocketed a Wengert offering into Heritage Park in center field and eventually out of the park and onto Eagle Avenue.
The 511-foot blastis the longest home run in Progressive Field's history and one of the most memorable shots of Thome’s career.
On Sept. 23, 2011, the Indians announced they would honor Thome with a statue in Heritage Park near the spot of the mammoth blast. The likeness will show the slugger posed just before a pitcher begins his delivery, with his bat pointed toward the mound.
Cleveland will wait for Thome’s retirement before officially erecting the statue. For now, a hologram acts as a reminder of one of Progressive Field’s signature moments.
