Jimmy Rollins passes Mike Schmidt as all-time Phillies hits leader
On Saturday afternoon, Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins passed Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt to become the all-time franchise leader in hits. The record-breaking, 2,235th knock was a single to right field.
J-Roll's teammates came around to celebrate and Mike Schmidt himself walked out to first to congratulate Rollins on the momentous occasion.
Rollins made his debut in Philly on September 17, 2000 (Madonna's "Music" was the No. 1 song in the country). Fourteen years and more than 8,300 at-bats later, there's a new hit king in Philly.
