Joe Mauer demonstrates the proper way to dance to avoid a pickoff throw
Joe Mauer dances to avoid a pickoff throw
Bearded Joe Mauer stood on first base during the bottom of the first inning of Saturday evening's Indians-Twins matchup. With two outs, a well-timed pickoff throw from Josh Tomlin could very well end the inning. Mauer had to be vigilant and, in the event of a throw, ready to evade by any means necessary.
With a high leg kick and some crafty hip gyration, Mauer escaped Carlos Santana's tag. Sure, he probably didn't need to flash his dance moves, but the throw made him stumble in self-preservation and he had to recover however he could.
Or maybe he was just practicing for a wedding.
