Jon Lester makes debut for Athletics ... on Yoenis Cespedes T-shirt night

Thursday's trade deadline started bright and early with the morning announcement that the Red Sox had traded Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes to the Athletics in exchange for back-to-back Home Run Derby champion Yoenis Cespedes.

While the move seemed to benefit both clubs, it left the Athletics marketing department with an odd dilemma because Saturday's game at Oakland's O.co Coliseum was supposed to be Yoenis Cespedes t-shirt night. 

After surely exhaustive debates about the pros and cons of turning them into smocks for local elementary schools or dropping them off at a Goodwill, the A's decided to just go ahead and give 'em out anyway.

Lester survived the awkward situation, surrendering three runs over six and 2/3 innings and earning his 11th "W" of the year in an 8-3 win over the Royals.

Meanwhile, Cespedes went 1-for-4 with a run scored in a 6-4 Red Sox loss to the Yankees.
