Larkin to Phillips: A dream double-play combo becomes reality ... kind of
Although we'll never see two of the smoothest middle infielders in Reds history turn a double play, Barry Larkin and Brandon Phillips took part in a memorable moment in Cincinnati on Saturday.
Following a ceremony to retire his No. 11 -- and just one month after he was inducted into the Hall of Fame -- Larkin tossed out a ceremonial first pitch to Phillips at Great American Ball Park. Larkin's daughter, Cymber, also performed the national anthem.
Larkin joins an elite list of former Reds who have had their numbers retired, including Fred Hutchinson, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Sparky Anderson, Dave Concepcion, Ted Kluszewski, Frank Robinson, and Tony Perez.
