Let's speculate why Adeiny Hechavarria (briefly) remained at the plate after being walked

Hechavarria forgets to walk to first after ball four

Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria took eight pitches from Braves starter Shelby Miller to lead off the top of the fifth inning of Monday's Marlins-Braves matchup. This was the eighth:

Hechavarria took a fastball for a ball, and then remained in the batter's box to await Miller's next offering. One problem: this was the count prior to that pitch …

There would be no next pitch, because Hechavarria walked. But, for a moment, it seemed as though Hechavarria didn't want to trot down to first and take his base on balls. It seemed that the Marlins shortstop wanted to see at least one more pitch from Miller.

He probably just lost track of the count, thinking the pitch was only ball three, but maybe it was something more.

Maybe he really wanted a hit instead of a walk, a hit that would be his second of the game and third of the season (that came later, in the ninth). Maybe he was enjoying the atmosphere of the batter's box and the company of Braves catcher Christian Bethancourt and home plate umpire Jeff Kellogg.

Or perhaps he was just pausing to look both ways before walking, as everyone really should do.
