Listen to 88-year-old Lew Dunlap discuss the mound charging in his own words

Listen to 88-year-old Lew Dunlap tell his story

This week, the 88-year-old mound-charging Lew Dunlap has become a viral sensation, Rockies Fantasy Camp MVP and, generally, the King of Baseball. Now he's a local news celebrity too.

KDVR in Colorado interviewed Lew about his time with the Rockies and Internet fame, and found the octogenarian basking in the spoils of a wild week.

He described his now-famous at-bat and the moment that followed: "It was … perfect." Though according to Lew, he never intended to start a fight with the pitcher:

"Absolutely not," Lew said. "That was the fourth pitch and I had a walk, so it was no big deal."

Though Dunlap conquered the Rockies camp this year, he plans to go back next year to defend his title. And the year after that.

"I'm going to start working at both my throwing and my batting," he said.

And the secret to his vivacious spirit? Baseball, naturally:

"I think it does keep me younger. It might keep me less angry."
