Little Suzie's Off-Season: the poetic tale of a pint-sized Giants superfan

For your pre-Opening Day viewing pleasure, the San Francisco Giants present "Little Suzie's Off-Season," the Dr. Seuss-inspired story of an adorable fan pouting her way from December to March. Suzie's birthday, New Year's, and even Christmas fail to cure the no-baseball blues -- after all, who needs Santa when you've got Sandoval?

Little Suzie's Off-Season

On a cold October night the sun shone so bright

The Giants were World Champions, and a city would ignite

Together, drenched in a champagne cascade

Together, pouring onto the streets in a grand parade

One out of a million, Little Suzie screamed with glee

She had never in her whole life, been truly this happy

But as the day ended, she said a sweet good-bye

A grey cloud was looming, enough to make even a hardened man cry

For Suzie did not like the Off-Season

No not at all, and for quite good reason

So she counted the minutes, the hours, the days

But that only made little Suzie think more,

About how baseball, just seemed so far away

She missed two-strike sliders, garlic fries and homeruns

She missed the Panda and his skills with bubblegum

Luckily she had a friend, a best friend indeed

But Charlie was just as sad as she; he wanted baseball here now

So much he couldn't sleep

Even as she sat with her family for a Thanksgiving feast

Nothing could stop the wave of sadness, in fact; it increased

"How are Mom and Dad so glad?"

To little Suzie this seemed mad

And as she practiced her writing

She thought of Matt Cain

But many would say she was the one going insane

The days passed on to a very special date

Where you get one wish so you better make it great

But even on her birthday she couldn't think straight

Her mind was elsewhere -- bases loaded -- Buster steps up to the plate!

She knew her only wish would have to wait

To her, she had done no wrong

She was nice not naughty all year -- just like the song

But as jolly old St. Nick went "HO-HO-HO"

She thought to herself, "No way does this tiny box fit Marco Scutaro"

All the while, the other kids had their fun

But Little Suzie, she had none

She couldn't help but gaze a nasty stare

She was mad at Timmy for cutting his rock star hair

She could not seem to get out of her funk

She missed Brandon Crawford's defense "Oh, what a hunk"

She missed Vogelsong's strong demeanor

And hoped, this year he would be even meaner

But as the New Year began to grow

In Little Suzie, a hint of happiness started to show

To her, kicking a ball makes no sense at all

And like Romo, baseball makes her feel ten feet tall

It's pretty clear, the key to Suzie's young heart

Two rings, a rookie of the year, an MVP…and that's just the start

Kids would say, "Basketball is where it's at"

But little Suzie disagreed, replying with her baseball bat

Now Suzie is completely humming

Must be that that long awaited day is coming

Then one day, Charlie heard a Suzie scream

Thinking to himself, "Can it finally be?"

Oh, the excitement felt on this day

She will finally get to see all her boys play

Suzie ran and yelled, a smile from ear to ear

"Woo-Hoo" Opening Day is finally here

"Woo-Hoo" Giants fans stand up and cheer!
