Longtime Padres broadcaster honored with bronze statue at Petco

Padres announcer Jerry Coleman has accomplished many things during his 88 years on earth.

He won four World Series titles as a member of the Yankees, served admirably in two wars, received the Ford C. Frick Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and on Saturday, the 'Colonel' was honored with a military-inspired statue at Petco Park.

Bud Black, broadcast partner Ted Leitner and others participated in the day-long tribute to Coleman, who has spent 40 years in San Diego's radio booth.

Asked by Padres TV announcer Dick Enberg what he thought of his bronze bust, the always witty Coleman responded:

"I'm about to take it home and put it in the front lawn."
