Lou Gehrig home run ball set to hit auction in Kansas City

This ball, which was smacked for a homer by Lou Gehrig during the 1928 World Series, is expected to fetch a price in the low six-figures at auction next week in Kansas City.

Originally caught by Yankees fan Buddy Kurland, the ball been passed down through his family for several generations and is now owned by Liz Gott of Stamford, Conn. Gott intends to use proceeds from the auction to pay her son's medical school tuition.

Hard to imagine that Kurland could have foreseen his souvenir earning enough money to one day put an unborn relative through medical school. Moral of the story: Next time you're in the bleachers, bring a glove.
