Man City vs Chelsea: Soccer takes over Yankee Stadium

While the Yankees were away in Tampa, Yankee Stadium was tied up with another sport. On Saturday evening, what is usually a baseball diamond was transformed into a soccer pitch as Yankee Stadium hosted a friendly match between Manchester City FC and Chelsea FC.

"It's electric, its awesome. You can hear it and it's a bunch of Chelsea fans, it's great," said a Chelsea supporter named Matt, who traveled from Philadelphia to see his favorite club play. Lukas Decker, who traveled all the way from Tampa, added, "I begged my parents for a while, and one day they surprised me with tickets. The field is perfect here today, and the seating is great too."

Last year, Yankee Stadium hosted two soccer games during the summer: Chelsea FC vs Paris Saint-Germain on July 22, and Real Madrid vs AC Milan on August 8.

Thousands of soccer fans poured into Yankee Stadium for a match between two Premier League clubs, and soon those fans will have an MLS team to call their own. The Yankees and Manchester City announced a partnership this week to introduce the New York City Football Club in 2015.
