Mark Appel might have set a record for selfies taken at the Zoo

When the Astros selected pitcher Mark Appel with the first overall pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, they knew they'd be getting his fastball, which tops out in the mid-to-high 90s. They were banking on his fading changeup and looked forward to seeing him put his incredible slider to good use.

We doubt they expected his selfie game to be just as strong. 

Appel recently visited the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Colo., and demonstrated that he's fully aware that social media platforms were specifically built for pictures of famous people with adorable animals.
