Marlins Park plays host to college bowl game between Western Kentucky and South Florida

Marlins Park plays host to Miami Beach Bowl

Because the offseason is dark and full of terrors, baseball teams often decide to open up their stadiums to other sports rather than letting them become terrifying baseball-less caverns for a few months a year.

Fenway Park got Notre Dame football earlier this offseason, the Cardinals played host to the USWNT and Nationals Park got NHL action last winter, just to name a few.

On Monday, Marlins Park played host to the University of Southern Florida (USF) and Western Kentucky University (WKU) for the Miami Beach Bowl. The field looked pretty good before the game, though I was expecting to see a lot more sand for a beach-themed bowl game.

We can only hope that the home run machine will light up and spin around every time a touchdown is scored. I don't want to have to wait until April to see that thing in action.
