Meet Big Fella -- the Twins' equipment manager
Both starting pitchers in Wednesday's Twins-White Sox game -- Jake Peavy and P.J. Walters -- hailed from Alabama. But they weren't the only ones on the field who got their start in the Cotton State.
Known to most as Big Fella or Biggie (it’s even engraved on his shoes), Minnesota equipment manager Wayne Hattaway calls Alabama home, too.
Big Fella has been a staple of the Twins organization for 48 years. He’s been in baseball for 60 years, getting his start with the Dodgers as a 12-year-old bat boy.
The 72-year-old -- with his signature thick mustache and glasses -- can usually be spotted in the Twins dugout. He doesn't hesitate to talk to anyone who approaches him at the ballpark. Just keep in mind -- he’ll be calling you “Big Fella.”
