Meet Hiccups and Poppers, the Dodgers and Giants cancer-fighting clowns
Meet Hiccups and Poppers, Dodgers and Giants clowns
They've been spoken of in hushed whispers across the internet. Forum posts with blurry screenshots featuring these two baseball fans in painted faces and giant shoes are devoted to figuring out who these gentlemen are. Dodgers employees speak of the duo the way hotel employees talk about the ghosts that roam their halls.
They are Hiccups and Poppers. And they are baseball clowns.
Ah, so the Giants clown is hanging out with Hiccups, who does charity work in LA pic.twitter.com/koxwO1Nns9
- CJ Fogler (@cjzero) April 7, 2014The two started dressing up in competing clown gear following a friendly wager in 2012 and have been at it ever since. While Hiccups is a Dodgers season-ticket holder and can often be spotted in his clowning finest, Poppers comes down from San Francisco whenever the Giants are in town to show off his replica World Series ring and bedazzled MLB logo necklace. (Speaking of: When are the Cut4 writers getting some bedazzled bling?)
While they have plenty of fun in the park and are embraced by the fans of each team, their real passion is for something much more important than baseball: The fight against childhood cancer.
Hiccups showed off the Dodgers "Fight Cancer" T-shirt he wears under his personalized jersey and added, "When I put the jersey away, I'm still fighting this enemy." When not watching their beloved teams, the two can be found visiting hospitals, holding pizza parties for the homeless and giving back to the community in any way they can.
As Poppers said, "We bring a positive message. That's what it's all about."
