Mets farm team will give out free boxes of chocolate on Forrest Gump night

Mama always said there's an awful lot you can tell about a person by their shoes. In 1994, moviegoers watched intently as a floating feather landed near a pair of muddy sneakers. The camera panned up to reveal Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump. From that moment forward, talking about shrimp and boxes of chocolate in America would never be the same.

Forrest Gump was filmed, and partially set, in Savannah, Ga., which happens to be the home of the Mets' Class A affiliate. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Oscar-winning film's theatrical release, the Savannah Sand Gnats are hosting "Forrest Gump Night" on July 12:

The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a free box of chocolate (duh), one of which will include a feather that can be redeemed for a free ticket to each of the team's remaining home games this season because, truly, the only thing better than baseball is '90s nostalgia and baseball.

I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is and America loves Forrest Gump. That's all I have to say about that.
