Miguel Cabrera fashions himself a 'bringer of rain,' takes the nickname a little too seriously
Miguel Cabrera's homer literally brings the rain
For years, Josh Donaldson has been The Bringer of Rain. From Oakland to Toronto, home run after home run, Donaldson has reigned supreme. But on Wednesday night, a challenger to the throne appeared.
Miguel Cabrera.
Vote Cabrera: Esurance MLB All-Star ballot
Perhaps taking Donaldson's moniker a bit too literally, Cabrera mashed a three-run homer in the sixth inning of the Tigers' game against the Reds that promptly brought the rain pouring down onto Great American Ball Park. It wasn't just a spritz, either. We're talking bring-the-tarp-out, hour-plus-rain-delay-level rain.
"Am I doing this right?" Cabrera probably asked Donaldson, through the telepathic communication channel that all American League sluggers share.
"Uh, sort of," Donaldson probably replied.
If that isn't throwing down the gauntlet for nickname supremacy, I'm not sure what is.
