Mike Shannon now exists in bobblehead form
Popular Cardinals broadcaster Mike Shannon finally received an overdue honor on Friday night: a bobblehead in his likeness.
Featuring Mike and sporting his signature black jacket while sitting on a red fitness ball, the bobblehead became one of the most anticipated promotional giveaways of the season with a sellout crowd of 46,000-plus coming through the turnstiles for tonight's game. Even better, the collectible item includes an audio chip replaying Mike's memorable call of David Freese's game-winning home run in Game 6 of the 2011 World Series.
A St. Louis native, Mike starred for the 1964 and '67 world champion Cardinals, then moved to the broadcast booth in '72. Now in his 42nd season, Shannon's voice has been the soundtrack for several memorable moments in team history. He's also beloved for his signature catchphrases and observations and is affectionately nicknamed "The Moon Man."
