MLB Alumni Face-off: Florida State vs. Auburn

Auburn and Florida State kick off Monday in Pasadena with the BCS National Title on the line. If you're not sure who to root for, perhaps this rundown of each school's MLB talent will help make the decision …
Auburn University
Frank Thomas
Would you look at that -- a bona-fide Hall of Fame candidate! Thomas was a two-sport athlete at AU (football and baseball, naturally), but won SEC MVP honors his senior year as a first baseman. Oh, and by the way, his .568 OBP in 1989 remains a school record.

Seriously, how cool was Bo Jackson? He has a signature moment as a college athlete, as an NFL player, as an MLB All-Star and as a video game character. How many people can say that? Bo knows ... War Eagle.

Tim Hudson
Hudson's career 11.89 K/9 remains an Auburn record, and when he made his way to MLB, he became a core piece of the Big Three in Oakland. He's also got some mean fantasy football skills.

Josh Donaldson
@BringerOfRain20 has one of the best Twitter handles in the business and finished fourth in AL MVP voting after a monster 2013 breakout with the A's.

Florida State University
Buster Posey
The 2012 NL MVP holds the single-season FSU record for batting average, and is second in both on-base percentage and slugging (we'll get to who's first in a moment). Posey is also one of the top catchers in MLB at the moment, already making him one of FSU's all-time greatest alumni.

J.D. Drew
Drew (whose given name is actually David Jonathan Drew) is FSU's career leader in on-base percentage and slugging - and perhaps the only player whose career numbers as a Seminole top Posey's.

Stephen Drew
J.D. won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2007, and then his baby brother did the same thing in 2013. The two also share an alma mater, and while Stephen didn't light up the scoreboard as gaudily as his brother, he was a solid player at FSU too.

Deion Sanders
FSU quarterback Jameis Winston recently told MLB.com that he wishes to be a two-sport athlete as a pro -- playing both in the NFL and MLB. Of course, he wouldn't be the first Seminole alum to claim that accomplishment.
Prime Time remains the only player ever to play in both a World Series and a Super Bowl. Famously, he once played in a Falcons-Dolphins game in the morning, and then flew to Pittsburgh to try to play in the NLCS with the Braves later that night. His most lasting MLB contribution, however, was bringing the Tomahawk Chop to Atlanta.

Tony La Russa
Okay, okay -- La Russa only went to FSU for Law School (yup, he's got a law degree too!), but we're counting it. You don't need to hear more about Tony La Russa. This is really all you need.
