This week in Minor League Baseball promotions: Biz Markie hosts Old School Hip-Hop Night

Myrtle Beach Pelicans host Old School Hip Hop Night

There are three certainties in life: death, taxes and most importantly, Minor League promotions. MiLB.com's Ben Hill has the inside scoop on the last of those certainties, and he'll be sharing a taste with us and you each and every week. Check out a unique upcoming promo below and read his full recap of the week's best promotions right here. You can follow Ben on Twitter @Bensbiz.

It's been more than a quarter-century since Biz Markie scored a top-10 hit with "Just A Friend," probably the highest-charting song ever to be performed on a piano by a warbling beat-boxer dressed up as Beethoven.

If you're feeling nostalgic for this splendid pop culture anomaly, then the Myrtle Beach Pelicans have, yes, "got what you need." Thursday is "Old School Hip-Hop Night" at the team's home of TicketReturn.com Field, and listed at the top of the marquee is Biz Markie himself. The Biz -- who in more recent years has become known for his many appearances on the kid's show "Yo Gabba Gabba" -- will host this gala affair.

Biz Markie had friends, and that's a fact, like "Agnes, Agatha, Jermaine and Jack." The Pelicans are advising fans to bring their friends Thursday, for an evening of hip-hop homage. Staff members will dress in what the team calls "typical" 1980s and early-90s fashions, while groups of break dancers perform on the concourse. Player headshots will be modeled after classic hip-hop album covers; here's hoping that Ultramagnetic MCs, Eric B. & Rakim and KRS-One, feature prominently.

And might the evening feature a "Just a Friend" sing-a-long led by Biz Markie himself? There is recent precedent for such an endeavor, as the Fresno Grizzlies hosted Mr. Markie just last week.

The Pelicans players, most of whom were born after "Just a Friend" hit the charts, have been practicing.
