Ned Yost has been messing with Jon Lester's landscaping all postseason

Ned Yost and Jon Lester are hunting buddies?

The term "down-home country boy" simply couldn't do Ned Yost's spectacular, all-American backstory justice. Yost was a scrawny high school kid who built the strength to hit baseballs by spending a crucial high school summer scrubbing pots at a KFC. Really.

The Royals' skipper wears No. 3 as a tribute to his late friend and iconic NASCAR superstar Dale Earnhardt, so it should be no surprise that he also lives on a farm during the offseason and goes hunting with left-hander Jon Lester, whom Yost's Royals beat in this year's AL Wild Card Game.

When addressing the media ahead of Wednesday's Game 7, Yost was asked about his friendship with Lester. Yost said that he hasn't spoken with Lester recently, but admitted that they'll go hunting when the season's over. Oh, and he seized the opportunity to have a little fun at Lester's expense:

Q. Jon Lester was telling me once that you guys are off‑season hunting buddies and hang out at times. Have you spoken with him at all recently or will you talk about anything?
NED YOST: No, we'll get together when we get home. His farm's about a half a mile from mine. There is a guy that does a lot of work on his farm and my farm. Right before all this started, my wife went -- because she wanted some work done around the lake -- and Larry told her, "I'll get to it as soon as I get done with Jon's stuff." My wife looked at him kind of funny and Larry goes, "Well, Deb, Jon wants this done before he gets home." And Debra goes, "Well, Ned wants this done before he gets home." And right before the Wild Card Game, I called Larry and said, "Look, Larry, you can take your time on mine, but you better hurry up on Jon's." (Laughter). That was wishful thinking, and luckily it worked out.

Yeah, that's right: Ned Yost and Jon Lester use the same farmhand and Yost told the guy to take his time getting his work done because the Royals season was going to be a bit longer, this year.

The Yostseason is the most season, folks.
