Nelson Cruz smashes home run onto train tracks at Minute Maid Park

Nelson Cruz smashes a home run onto train tracks

After hitting 10 home runs in April to tie for the league lead, Nelson Cruz knew he would have to do something special to keep people excited with his dinger prowess. With the Mariners in Houston, he was struck with divine inspiration: Go all Jesse James-like and attack the train hanging out above left field at Minute Maid Park.

Facing Luke Gregerson in the ninth inning and the Mariners trailing 4-1, Cruz smashed his 11th homer of the season 469 feet away, clear onto the train tracks. We can only assume that train engineer Bobby Vasquez was the lucky one to walk away with the ball.

Though Logan Morrison added another homer two batters later, the Astros would hold on to win, 4-3. It was Houston's eighth consecutive victory -- their longest streak since they also won eight in a row from Aug. 27 to Sept. 3, 2008.
