New season, new look: Jenrry Mejia's luscious locks are ... gone
Jenrry Mejia shaved off his luscious locks

Mets closer Jenrry Mejia boasted two trademarks last summer: his stomping, howling (sometimes, moonwalking) save celebrations:

And the puffs of black hair sticking out from underneath his cap.

When the Mets asked Mejia to tone down the former late last season, he complied. Now the latter is gone as well, completely of his own doing. The Mets closer took a trip to the barber on Wednesday, in what some fans initially thought was an April Fool's joke.
No joke here. The 'fro is gone.
It's real... Mejia has a new look. #Mets pic.twitter.com/jO3umo0mqz
— New York Mets (@Mets) April 2, 2015The closer did keep some of his signature locks on top of his head, though they are invisible now when he wears his cap.
Reactions on Twitter ranged from anxious to outraged to congratulatory -- though as long as Mejia pitches like he did last year, Mets fans won't fret too much. In his first year as closer, Mejia saved 28 games in 31 chances, posting a 3.65 ERA. He'll open this season back in the closer's role, though Bobby Parnell could challenge for that job once he finishes rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.
Let's just hope chopping the locks doesn't bring about some unexpected consequence ...
@Mets didn't his hair give him stomping powers? #goodbyeMejiastomp
