Newtown Day at Yankee Stadium honors victims and first responders
On Sunday, the New York Yankees hosted Newtown Day. Approximately 4,000 Newtown residents were guests of the team for the Yankees' tilt with the Orioles.
As a special tribute to the recovering Connecticut town, the Yankees held a pregame ceremony in which the names of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting were recognized on the center field video board.
The Newtown Youth Voices choir treated the crowd to a beautiful performance of the national anthem.
Pat Llodra, Newtown's first selectman, was happy to join in the day's events. "Newtown and the Sandy Hook section of Connecticut is very much Yankee land and we are very excited about being here," she said.
