Oakland fans celebrate key error on Josh Hamilton Appreciation Night

Fans in the right-field bleachers at O.co Coliseum celebrated Josh Hamilton Appreciation Night on Monday, when the Angels outfielder returned to Oakland for the first time since Game 162 last year. Hamilton infamously dropped a routine fly ball in that contest, which helped the A's win the game and the AL West.

This tongue-in-cheek tribute to Hamilton was conceived on Twitter by @RFWes during the offseason. As part of the festivities, there were plenty of Butterfinger candy bars floating around the bleachers. A few were tossed onto the field during batting practice and Hamilton even ate one as he shagged fly balls and engaged in friendly conversation with A's fans.

The right-field stands gave Hamilton a standing ovation when his name was announced in the top of the first and applauded his eventual strikeout. Hamilton finished the 19-inning game 0-for-8 with three whiffs.
