On Darryl Strawberry's birthday, watch his first career home run

The first overall pick in the 1980 MLB Draft, Darryl Strawberry was primed for stardom from the beginning. He won Rookie of the Year in 1983 and started a run of eight consecutive All-Star appearances the following year. He found most of his success with the Mets (with whom he won the 1986 World Series at the height of his fame). But continued well into the '90s with the Dodgers, Giants and Yankees (with whom he won three more rings, in '96, '98 and '99).

At his peak, Strawberry was a fearsome combination of speed and power which made his 6-foot-6 figure an unwelcome sight in the batters box for any opposing pitcher. He was known for his sweet left-handed swing, which was apparent on his first career long ball. Happy 52nd, Straw.
