Sean O'Sullivan and Boone Logan engaged in a friendly post-anthem standoff at Coors Field

O'Sullivan, Logan have friendly post-anthem standoff

Phillies starter Sean O'Sullivan and Rockies reliever Boone Logan recognize that there are certain times in a man's life where he must take a stand -- and must continue standing, and standing, and standing, until finally being forced not to stand any more.

Like two grizzled cowboys at high noon, O'Sullivan and Logan found themselves across from each other during the national anthem prior to Thursday's Phillies-Rockies game. And, given that Coors Field ain't big enough for the two of those fantastic beards, the men settled their predicament as tradition would dictate: They had themselves an old-fashioned foul-line standoff:

Phillies Standoff

Things began intensely, as two determined participants dug in their heels. But this is a marathon, not a sprint, and soon both men began to waver -- with O'Sullivan even calling on teammate Freddy Galvis to bring him some water, a move that came dangerously close to violating the Official Standoff Rulebook. They refused to blink, though, knowing that honor and glory were at stake.

Alas, all good things must come to an end, particularly when they conflict with a scheduled baseball game. After some initial trepidation, O'Sullivan and Logan shared a wary glance and trudged back to the dugout, content to standoff another day.
