Paul Goldschmidt's double got stuck in the Chase Field fence, which may be eating things now

The Chase Field outfield wall ate another baseball

Earlier this season, A.J. Pollock hit a baseball that landed directly in Chase Field's left-field wall. It seemed harmless enough -- a goofy occurrence that added a bit of whimsy to the game. Surely nothing threatening.

But during Tuesday night's Cardinals-D-backs game, Paul Goldschmidt launched a pitch from Jaime Garcia that, once again, got stuck smack-dab in between two pads on the outfield wall.

They say three's a trend, but these two are all the evidence we need: The Chase Field wall is eating baseballs. The offerings of leather and yarn stick in the padding, waiting to be slowly digested like Boba Fett inside the sarlacc pit. It's only a matter of time before the wall realizes it will need more than one baseball every two months to sustain itself and begins to look for ... something else to eat.

The look on Jason Heyward's face says it all: "This wall has an insatiable hunger and I'm afraid if I stick my hand in to retrieve this ball, I will be consumed next."
