The Padres know the best way to keep cool is on-field ice cream

Padres keep cool with visit from ice cream truck

There's no better way to beat the Arizona heat than with ice cream, and there's no reason to stop shagging fly balls to do it.

The Padres got a little treat before Tuesday night's game against the Royals when third base coach Glenn Hoffman arranged for a local ice cream truck, Sweet Dreams Ice Cream, from Surprise, to make a stop at the team's afternoon workout.

And by workout, we mean the actual field.

Players took a break from their drills to flock to the truck for various goodies, as that song (you know the one) that signals ice cream or possibly oncoming insanity played on and on and on and ... well, you get it.

Favorites included something that resembled a Minion from "Despicable Me" (James Shields jumped at the chance to order one), the Bomb Pop, ice cream sandwiches and chocolate crunch bars:

The temperatures in Arizona for the past week have pushed into the 90s and the Padres, two days shy of six weeks in the sun, appreciated the relief.
