Planning the White Sox travel: 'Just when you think you've got it figured out, you don't'

On Wednesday evening, the White Sox had a cross-country flight from Seattle to Chicago booked for 5:05 pm. One issue - the team was still at Safeco Field at 7:10 pm, finishing up a five hour and 42 minute, 16-inning marathon

When the game reached the 13th inning with the score still 0-0, there wasn't much White Sox Director of Travel Ed Cassin could do.

Knowing his club needed to be back in Chicago to take on the A's the following day, Cassin phoned the airlines, saying, "Hey guys, you have to hang tight. We'll be there when we can."

The game was extended three more innings, and 12 more runs before the the Sox finally won 7-5. It was the first game in MLB history where each team scored five or more runs after playing nine scoreless innings.

But for Ed Cassin, all it meant was that he could finally get the team back to Chicago.
