Question of the Day: Is Posada a Hall of Famer?
Now that Jorge Posada has announced his retirement, the clock begins ticking toward eligibility for the Hall of Fame starting with the Class of 2017. The campaigning is already under way, as the Yankees announced in his farewell press release that Yogi Berra is the only one of the current 14 Hall of Fame catchers who bettered Posada in all of the three Triple Crown categories.
That and those five World Series championship rings could go a long way toward earning support among the Baseball Writers' Association of America members who vote. Then again, he certainly won't be a lock like longtime teammates Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera. And it may work against him that others will see Jeter and Rivera as truly elite and Posada as a borderline candidate. It will be an interesting process.
