Quite the night: Josh Collmenter threw year's first complete game and picked up three hits

Collmenter threw first CG and picked up three hits.

Given that there were already 27 shutouts this season going into Friday's action, you may be surprised to learn that there had been zero complete games. But considering that pitchers are still stretching their arms out and Major League bullpens have become more dominant than "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" during its heyday, it makes sense.

Josh Collmenter put an end to that. Facing the Giants on Friday night, the ax-throwing Diamondback pitched the Majors' first complete game shutout, surrendering only four hits and picking up two strikeouts.

Perhaps more surprising was that Collmenter also collected three hits with an RBI.

Collmenter's hits

Not only was it Collmenter's first multi-hit game, it was the first three-hit, complete game shutout since Adam Wainwright's on April 13, 2013.

As for the last four-hit game? Well, naturally that was Dan Haren on April 20, 2010 in another D-Backs - Giants matchup.
