David Ortiz hits two home runs against the Tigers, is a literal wrecking ball
David Ortiz is a literal homer-hitting wrecking ball
You wouldn't think there would be a whole lot of similarities between David Oritz and Miley Cyrus. After all, Ortiz never starred in a Disney Channel TV show and his father never wrote a song about his achy, breaky heart.
However, you'd be wrong. After all, they both love to Party in the USA and they can't stop (won't stop) producing hits. Oh yeah, and they're both wrecking balls.
With the Red Sox and Tigers tied at 1 in the fifth inning on Sunday night, Ortiz came to the plate with two on. He promptly bashed a ball into the right-field stands to give the Red Sox a 4-1 lead. As he rounded the bases, the PA announcer put on Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball."
It was a fitting choice.
Two innings later, Ortiz was at it again. The slugger hit another three-run shot to extend the Red Sox lead to 11-1. Of course, this time the PA did not play any Cyrus as that would just have been cruel to the Tigers.
The two dingers gave Ortiz 19 on the season, leaving him one shy of his 14th consecutive 20-plus home run season.
