Remembering 7-time home run champion Ralph Kiner

Ralph Kiner was one of the most prodigious home run hitters of his or any era. He cracked 369 long balls in just 10 seasons for the Pirates, Cubs and Indians and led the NL in homers every year from 1946-52. You can see him doing what he did best above in the 1950 All-Star Game -- his solo shot in the top of the ninth led to the first extra-inning Midsummer Classic in history. He's also one of just seven players in history with multiple 50-home run seasons (the others: Jimmie Foxx, Mickey Mantle, Mark McGwire, Babe Ruth, Sammy Sosa and Willie Mays).

After his Hall of Fame playing career ended, Kiner joined the expansion Mets as a announcer in 1962, and continued appearing on Mets broadcasts right up until this past season. Here he is talking about the comparisons between Tom Seaver, Dwight Gooden and Zack Wheeler:

Kiner died in California at the age of 91 on Thursday, and is survived by five children and 12 grandchildren.
