Remembering the time that Dave Winfield sang at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Dave Winfield's 1981 Thanksgiving Parade performance

While we as a nation were too busy stuffing our faces and taking afternoon naps, we forgot to honor one of the greatest anniversaries in baseball history. That's right, yesterday was the 33rd Thanksgiving since Dave Winfield sang at the 1981 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
After batting .290 with 13 HRs in his first season with the Yankees, helping lead New York to the '81 AL pennant, Winfield was an obvious choice choice to ring in the festivities.
Atop a literal giant apple and with hilarious men-dressed-as-tug-boats ducking and bobbing alongside his float, Winfield lent his velvety voice and even velvetier mustache to a performance of the classic Ella Fitzgerald number, "Manhattan." Somehow it's still a more realistic depiction of the city than Taylor Swift's "Welcome to New York."

But why should I tell you about it when you can watch it for yourself? Just click on over to Dave Winfield's YouTube page to see the entire performance.
But Winfield wasn't the only star of the parade that year. After all, Erik Estrada, Donny Osmond and Santa Claus all made appearances.
