Maybe you can help us figure out exactly what happened on this Rubby De La Rosa balk?
Well, uh, we're not really sure what to say about this. We're still trying to wrap our heads around just what exactly happened, to be honest. What we do know, though, is that the D-backs and Rockies were just playing a regular old baseball game on Tuesday night, and then Arizona starter Rubby De La Rosa was apparently spooked by an angry baseball ghost:
As you might imagine, quickly stepping off the rubber and firing a pitch home is indeed a balk.
If it makes you feel better, though, De La Rosa isn't quite sure what to make of it either. "I don't know what I was thinking, but I know it wasn't a good idea," De La Rosa told MLB.com's Steve Gilbert after the game. "[Catcher Welington] Castillo asked me if I saw somebody trying to steal home. I said, 'I guess?' I don't know what happened."
The line of the night, though, goes to his manager Chip Hale: "We still haven't got a real good answer on that. He was talking about pitching him up high in the zone and we told him that might have been a little too high."
But does De La Rosa know something we don't? Is this actually the future of the game? Will we be playing rapid pitch TRON-baseball in 2050? If you have any further insight, please let us know in the comments.
